Americans…
Americans.
I like them,
decent bunch.
Even the ones from Delaware,
a place I’ve never been.
Some of them are red,
others are made of blue.
A few change their mind,
depends who’s got the silliest hat.
We’ve taken a lot from America,
on this side of the pond.
I wish strangers a “nice day”,
an un British thing to do.
The other day I was pondering,
Do I prefer Starsky over Hutch?
In the end I decided firmly,
my favourite was Huggy Bear.
I remembered being excited,
to find out who shot J.R.
and feeling very disappointed,
when Cheers closed its doors.
They gave us the cheeseburger,
and hot dogs in a bun.
Ben and Jerry’s ice cream,
chicken that’s finger licking good.
Let’s not forget those good old boys,
and their cousin Daisy Duke…
They do get a few things wrong,
it’s a pavement,
not a sidewalk.
Luggage goes in a car boot,
it’s elephants that have trunks.
The world is always watching,
takes a lead from what they do.
So I hope those pipes of peace,
play loud across their land.
Help make poetry great again. I need all the support I can get.

As an American, I thank you for this!
Love this!
