Vulnerability…
Thanks to Elissa Dines for suggesting this one.
The words definitely describe how I often feel about my words. Maybe this poem will resonate with others as well.
You can find a link to Elissa’s Substack below. She’s a great writer with heart, humour and soul in the words she gifts her readers.
Writers often live a contradiction:
we want our words to be seen,
find it difficult to openly share,
get stuck somewhere in between.
~
We judge our work very harshly,
see others as being more worthy,
ourselves as the uninvited guests,
at the literary event of the year.
~
For many, it’s something to hide;
on the surface, we play the game,
but inside, we feel like a fraud,
don’t really deserve to be here.
~
Of course, vulnerability is strength,
an undervalued creative gift,
provides much material to use,
it unlocks the door to our soul.
~
Next time you’re feeling unsure,
remember you are not alone;
all of us are in this together,
definitely on the same team.
