Dream On…
This is my weekly submission to the Stories From The Jukebox Newsletter (link below).
The Editor of SFJB is a great supporter of other creatives and an excellent writer himself. Go check him out.
The following poem was inspired by Dream On, a classic tune by the band Aerosmith. Look out for the bonus anecdote at the end.
Not sure how long I’ve been asleep,
feels like it’s been a very long time.
I try very hard to wake up,
and yet I still dream on.
~
I live in this land they call Nod,
it’s a mix of the old and the new.
Nothing is quite as it seems,
and yet I still dream on.
~
I’m sometimes here on my own,
often visited by those from my past.
We find closure and let things go,
and yet I still dream on.
~
There’s a message they try to share,
but it never reaches my soul.
Telling me I’m dead, not asleep.
And yet I still dream on.
Bonus Anecdote.
I was actually an original member of Aerosmith. It’s a little known fact that the band were actually formed in Wakefield, United Kingdom.
We were celebrated locally for our traditional folk songs, delivered with a hint of reggae.
Things were going well, we’d just played Wrenthorpe Sports and Social Club in front of, quite literally, dozens. I was approached afterwards by a member of the local branch of the Women’s Institute, with a proposal that we take a supporting role at their annual Christmas Carol Concert.
The big time was calling.
But then, as has been the downfall of so many bands before and since, musical differences raised its ugly head.
At a band meeting, our then banjo player, Steven Tyler suggested we move to more of a rock style.
Obviously I told him to dream on.
With that they upped and left. Moved to the USA and, granted, had some minor success.
Our chance to be part of the Christmas Carol Concert and achieve legendary status within the Women’s Institute was, however, lost forever.
Something, I know we all regret to this day 😔.
Please share this one. It helps me, but also promotes the Stories From The Jukebox Newsletter. Thanks 🙏 in advance.
As always, my end of post request for you to subscribe/upgrade. It’s appreciated more than you know ❤️.

I'd booked tickets for that WI concert in Wakefield. I was not happy that Mr Tyler took his banjo off to the US.
Mind you, Norman 'Slim' Cook did a good job with the replacement disco. Excellent Country & Western set.
🤣💕
